Cellulite Facts

What is Cellulite?Cellulite

Is your back side, belly or thighs full of dimples that you’d like to hide? It’s called cellulite, and you’re not alone. While both men and women can have cellulite, it’s been reported that up to 90% of women have cellulite.

What exactly is cellulite? It’s actually small pockets of fat trapped under the skin’s surface. Think only overweight people can get cellulite? Think again! Cellulite can form on anyone, even stick-thin people.

What causes cellulite? Cellulite is caused a few different ways. First and foremost, just like most medical conditions, take a look at your family. Does your mom have cellulite? What about your sisters? If so, chances are good that you’ll have it too. Also, as mentioned above, just by being female, your automatically prone to cellulite. Hormones also are a cellulite-causing factor.

Another factor in cellulite appearance is how sedentary you are. Do you exercise? Walk or bike when you can? Those who take the time to get up and out of their seat are less likely to have large amounts of fat, and thus cellulite.

Do cellulite creams work? Don’t expect miracles from any cellulite cream or treatment. While many creams can help temporarily, cellulite creams typically contain ingredients like caffeine that simply plump the skin temporarily. As soon as you quit using the cream, your cellulite will return.

However, cellulite massagers have showed the ability to break down the fat under the skin, thus helping flush out the cellulite. These tools can be used daily in the shower with your shower gel or after your shower with cream or lotion.

What you can do to help diminish the appearance of cellulite. Get off your seat! (or your feet!) Do you sit all day for your job? What about standing constantly in the same spot. While cellulite isn’t caused by being overweight, exercising can help reduce or prevent cellulite. Start by taking daily walks and slowly move up and on to other forms of exercise.

Another easy way to reduce the appearance of your cellulite is by self-tanning. A self tanner or bronzer can make your legs appear more smooth and less cottage-cheese like. Follow these self-tanning tips to create a smooth, even application.

And my last tip, even though you might look at your bumpy-lumps and feel self-conscious, these little lumps find there way on most people, even celebrities! (They just have people available to air-brush them out of their pictures before we see them.)

Instead of looking in the mirror with frustration, find a part of your body that you love and flaunt that.

Negative Effects of Smoking Cigarettes on the Skin

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

http://i.ehow.com/images/a06/2d/jg/effects-smoking-fingers-200X200.jpgLooking beautifully, young and attractive, having a healthy complexion is essential for almost every woman. We are constantly looking for and testing new cosmetics and if it was possible we would spend enormous amounts of money to improve the way we look, to have ideal skin and complexion.

What difference does it make, however, if many of these women still smoke cigarettes?

If you smoke, all the beautifying treatments you spend so much time and money on, have little or no effect at all. None of the treatments are able to cure the damage which is caused by smoking. If we choose smoking, we choose action which is contradictory to our efforts aiming at remaining healthy, young and beautiful for a long time. From the outside, we try to supply our skin with the best nutritional components while at the same time we destroy the skin’s texture from the inside by smoking cigarettes. It is not possible to find good resolution to our skin problems if we concentrate on fighting the harmful effects without removing the negative cause first. Cosmetics have influence on the outer parts of skin mainly and their active components cannot reach the deepest layers of inner skin where the most serious damage caused by smoking takes place. In consequence, the negative effects of this damage can be seen on the outside of skin.

I am aware, of course, that after reading my article it hardly probable that many people decide to quit smoking immediately and the aim of my article is not to preach my readers, either. I only would like to make fully aware of the true consequences of smoking all these young women who decide to smoke cigarettes. It has been told and written so much in different media about bad influence of smoking on human health that there is no need to repeat these thing once more. I am interested mainly in giving the basic facts concerning the influence of smoking on appearance and functioning of our skin.

What are the Effects of Smoking on Skin

The threat of cancer or heart diseases is not enough reason for young people to stop smoking. They are convinced that these problems are the problems of older people not theirs. However, negative aspects of smoking can become visible outside much faster than it seems. In time the way our complexion looks is getting worse and worse. This problem concerns both men and women, although in women negative changes are noticeable sooner because they occur faster. This may be the crucial argument for all women who want to smoke.

It seems very advantageous for us that recently it has been written and told a lot about the negative aspects of solar radiation, for example UVA or UVB on our skin. On the other hand, smoking is as much harmful, if not more, to our skin as sunbathing without the use of UVA/UVB creams. Clinical tests which have been made for many recent years, have proved that the skin of a smoker is getting older faster than that of a non-smoking person. It has been shown, for instance, that the skin of forty-year-old people who have been smoking for years, may be as much destroyed as the skin of seventy-year-old non-smokers. Doctors call the type of changes that undergo inside human skin as “tobacco face” syndrome.

First of all, during the process of smoking there are produces huge amounts of so-called free radicals. They are very active elements which attack and destroy skin cells and this smoking causes wrinkles. In every article, I have written, I tried to emphasize the idea of the sun protection, not only during the summertime but through the whole year round. The solar radiation may cause premature skin ageing because it generates the producing of free radicals to large extent. It is useless, though, to protect our skin with the help of UVA/UVB creams or antioxidants while, in the meantime, we continue smoking. In such case, smoking becomes even more treacherous than our exposure to the sunlight without any protection.

Living With Cellulite

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

http://guide2herbalremedies.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Cellulite.jpgLiving with cellulite may make a person feel insecure or uncomfortable, but it’s extremely common. An estimated 98% of women have some form of cellulite. There are a few ways you can prevent and improve the look of cellulite, and learn to live with it.

Exercise

Anyone can have cellulite, regardless of size or weight. However, one of the best preventative tools we have is exercise. This is because the underlying muscle will expand and help to even out the area. Focus on a healthy workout routine, and make sure to fit in some toning workouts, especially in those areas plagued with cellulite.

Diet

This hasn’t been proven, but many agree that eating healthier fats such as olive oil and nuts keep the fat cells smaller than large amounts of unhealthy fats, such as meats and dairy. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, healthy grains and lean protein can help keep you looking your best.

Creams and Massage

There are many topical products claiming to reduce the appearance of cellulite. You can try them all, but chances are they may not work completely, or give only temporary results. Invest in a firming cream, and this should be enough. You don’t have to break the bank. Try a lotion that adds glow to the skin, as this may help mask the un-even appearance of cellulite. Massaging will improve circulation in those areas, and you can do this while in the shower. Use an exfoliating sponge or puff, or try coffee grounds. They contain caffeine which may produce a tightening effect. The increased blood flow helps to even out the tissue in those areas.

Women who are very self-conscious of their cellulite may opt for surgical treatments. They are not all effective, so make sure you do some research before you decide to go through with it.

Skin Protection: Choosing Beauty Products with SPF Sunscreen

What is SPF?  How to Choose a Good Sunscreen

With millions of people suffering with skin cancer or sun related skin damage every year, the use of sunscreen is more important than ever before. The good news is more people are becoming aware of the risks associated with sun overexposure and are taking the necessary steps to protect themselves in the future. The even better news is there are a multitude of products on the market which make it very easy to take care of your skin and protect it from the sun’s damaging rays. However, many people are quite confused over which sunscreen they should purchase and use. There are many confusing terms often used on sunscreen packaging which make it difficult to know what can protect in the most effective way.

What Is SPF?

SPF is an acronym which stands for Sun Protection Factor. Bottles with higher SPF numbers will protect better against harmful UVB rays from the sun. Basically, the SPF number is an indicator of how long you can stay in the sun without burning. For instance, if a person usually gets burned in 15 minutes, a lotion with SPF 15 protection would allow them to stay in the sun 15 times longer (or for 225 minutes) without burning.  It’s recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology that everyone wear a product with at least SPF 15. Of course, some people wonder if this means an SPF of 50 will protect loads more than lotions with SPF of 30. However, this is not necessarily the case. A lotion with SPF 50 only protects about 2% more than a lotion with SPF 30.

UVA and UVB

When you’re looking at lotions and sunblock products, be sure to check out the protection they offer from UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are those which result in the aging of the skin and they may cause skin cancer. Without UVA protection from Coppertone lotions or any other sunscreen lotion, you’ll get more wrinkles. Thus, one factor to think about when choosing your daily makeup or moisturizer is whether or not it offers included UVA protection. Neutrogena offers high rating products to help you combine both makeup coverage and skin protection in one. UVB rays are those which can also give sunburn and are related to the cause of skin cancer.

Waterproof Sunscreen

While years ago white zinc oxide was required for beach goers, today there are many options when it comes to skin protection. You no longer are forced to look like a clown to get ultraviolet protection. Instead, you can now find waterproof sunscreen to help you be able to frolic in the ocean or at the pool without worrying about sun damage. Be sure to look for a type that is both noncomodegenic and hypoallergenic. Also be sure to remember most “waterproof” lotion provides up to 80 minutes or protection but “water resistant” lotion might only give up to 40 minutes of protection.

With so many great products on the market for every day skin protection, there is no excuse to not protecting yourself from the sun’s harmful rays. Skin damage from the sun not only causes cancer but it can also cause things like early aging of the skin and wrinkles. While cancer is much more terrifying to consider, most women aren’t motivated to protect themselves due to it because they think it will never happen to them. However, all women are concerned about wrinkles so take action today and protect yourself from both!

Margy Skin Diary 14 Sep 10

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

It’s one week on from my 2nd CO2 laser treatment!

On the day I had the procedure done and the two days following my skin was pretty sore and swollen and I thought it would take weeks to look anywhere near normal again!

On day four my skin had calmed down massively,  although it was still red and very dry (similar to a post skin peel).

Today, seven days on I can’t believe that it is pretty much back to normal (considering how it first looked). Now I only have slight dryness,  and the results are looking brilliant!! I would definitely recommend it to anyone considering having this done!
