Permanent hair removal is a dream come true for low-maintenance ladies who want to free themselves from waxing and shaving. But does laser hair removal work? Read on for the facts.
It works by hitting the hair follicle with a beam of light, which creates a heat reaction with the root of the hair and kills it.
After your session, the hair should shed within one to three weeks. However, if the hair was not caught in the correct phase of growth it will regrow and need to be treated again – this is why you need multiple sessions.
Even if the hair doesn’t come out first go, you should notice that regrowth is both softer and finer each time. You can also expect around a 20% reduction in hair growth each time. Typically it takes three to six sessions to eliminate hair completely.
Body and facial hair can be a big problem for some women, damaging their confidence. Laser hair removal means you won’t have to worry about daily shaving, monthly waxing or ‘regrowth’ phases, and in the long run you’ll save time, money and hassle. “Many people see the swap from monthly waxing sessions to a more permanent hair removal option as an investment,” says Donna Adair, laser specialist at the Knightsbridge Laser Clinic.
Removing hair this way also improves the texture of the skin underneath, which becomes much smoother and clearer.
The initial outlay of laser hair removal may be too high for
some to justify. There is also slight pain and discom
fort associated with the laser treatment – a bit like having an elastic band twanged against the skin.
Laser sessions start from around £50 depending on threa. At the Knightsbridge L
aser Clinic it costs £65 for an upper lip, £95 for underarms and £100-£200 for a bikini hair removal depending on the style. Lower legs are £200 and full legs are £395.
Electrolysis is typically used for smaller areas of hair growth. It works by inserting a small needle into each individual hair follicle and inducing a short, sharp burst of energy. This cuts the hair off from its blood supply by cauterizing (burning) the follicle.
The technique is effective only when executed precisely and the hair should naturally glide out of the follicle after treatment. You should not feel any tugging or resistance. Electrolysis can cause scar tissue to form and take many sessions to complete.
Intense Pulse Light therapy (IPL) offers the same outcome as laser hair removal. The laser used in IPL covers a larger area than normal laser hair removal and this reduces the level of pain. IPL is generally considered to be a safer treatment, with less side effects.

Laser Hair Removal
Bald really is Beautiful-Yes you can take it all off on any area on any skin type! Laser Hair Removal is an excellent and popular medium to remove unwanted hair on any part of the body. The Tracey Bell centres use several different types of lasers and light devices indicated for different skin types and hair textures. During a treatment, light passes through the skin and is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft. This absorption raises the temperature of the hair follicle and thermally destroys its activity and potential for re-growth. A complete session takes between 15 to 45 minutes and a course of six treatments is required at 4 -6 week intervals.
Almost any tattoo can now be removed with the use of lasers. The treatment works by breaking down the particles of ink suspended beneath the skin, enabling your immune system to naturally eliminate them. Several types of laser wavelengths are employed to remove different colour groups and the specific laser pulses are directed onto the tattoo breaking up the pigment. Over the next several weeks the body’s macrophages remove the treated pigmented areas. Generally from 3 and up to 12 monthly sessions may be required and treatment times vary on the size of the tattoo which can take anywhere between 15 to 45 minutes.
