There’s No Vacation From Skin Care

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Everybody loves to go on vacation. Whether you happen to be into sun and sand, or slopes and snow boards, a little time away from all the boring yet stressful parts of your life can be just the rejuvenation you need, to get back to things energized and ready to build a better life. But, of course, even on vacation, you still have some responsibilities. While no one wants to think of serious chapping, let alone melanoma skin cancer, these are both potential hazards, which can be magnified by the weather conditions you may encounter while you are on vacation. So whether you happen to be going on cruises or skiing on the Alps, you may want to take heed of the following tips for on the go skin care.

Pack some dry skin lotion. While many people do not think of this, dry skin can make your entire vacation less comfortable overall. A little lotion applied liberally can make you feel a lot better… and if you happen to be on the beach and on the prowl, it can also help you to look better for the opposite sex.

Also pack the sun screen. Sun screen of at least SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 30 is extremely useful for keeping your skin from developing all sorts of cancerous growths over time. Just apply it half an hour before you plan to go out into the Sun, and the effects will become noticeable overtime. While not everyone who get a lot of sun get cancer, many people develop hard, leathery skin as they grow older – and a great deal of the reason for this is contained in their level of unprotected Sun exposure. Also keep in mind that the Sun’s radiation is only slightly lessened, even by heavy cloud cover. Just because the weather is cold, does not mean you should abandon the use of Sun screen.

Margy Skin Diary 14 Sep 10

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

It’s one week on from my 2nd CO2 laser treatment!

On the day I had the procedure done and the two days following my skin was pretty sore and swollen and I thought it would take weeks to look anywhere near normal again!

On day four my skin had calmed down massively,  although it was still red and very dry (similar to a post skin peel).

Today, seven days on I can’t believe that it is pretty much back to normal (considering how it first looked). Now I only have slight dryness,  and the results are looking brilliant!! I would definitely recommend it to anyone considering having this done!

The Secret to Anti-Aging Products: Sticking With It

Friday, September 10th, 2010

I’m back on Retin-A after a couple years off, not because I have acne, but because I love how Retin-A makes my skin look and feel so great after just a couple weeks of use. Retin-A, you’ll recall, was THE pimple medicine of the 90s, before Accutane took over. Dermatologists have known the anti-aging benefits of Retin-A for years and many skincare experts (who have their own lines, mind you), swear vitamin A is their secret weapon when it comes to their own skin care.

Some bits about Retin-A and other anti-aging products:

1. It’s best to use Retin-A under the guidance of a dermatologist. Here in the U.S., it’s not an over-the-counter product. Yes, I have to say this, even though I get the stuff over-the-counter in Mexico.
2. You will peel. My skin is currently peeling in patches, a minor annoyance in my quest for dewy, youthful skin. This is typical the first two weeks with Retin-A.
2. Gotta wear sunscreen. Skin is extra-sensitive to the sun. You have to very careful to stay out of the sun when on Retin-A.
3. Stick with it. Many women abandon skincare regimens because they can’t stand the redness or peeling and think it’s not working.
