Botox.. the good, the bad and the ugly…

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

So much has been written about Botox – a purified protein, a toxin (but don’t worry – it’s dosage in cosmetics is so small) and a revolution in cosmetic, non surgical procedures.

The development advances and practice have allowed Botox to be utilized in all areas.

So where can I have Botox cosmetically?

Forehead

Frown Lines

Crows Feet

Around the lips – NOT in the lips

Neck (lines on the neck)

Jaw Line – to enhance and create definition

Arm Pits – excellent for decrease in perspiration or Hyperdrosis – lasts up to 9

months and is a complete life changing event.

Gummy Smile

What side effects can I get ?

Quite honestly, minimal – as long as each face is diagnosed, the practitioner experienced and the patient knows what they want:

So what can happen?

Bruising – always possible and always avoidable

Drooping – yes, eyebrows can drop if muscles are not assessed – but again minimal

Uneven eye brows – sometimes this happens and is easily corrected – as with all Botox treatments

I don’t want to look plastic with Botox

A comment that I hear every hour, rest assured Botox can produce any result that you want.  It’s dependant on your wishes, I like movement, I can move my eyebrows, smile and my forehead…………..

Why?  Cos I want to!  I’m 40 years old, happy and I love Botox.  And, for those that like no movement –  Yes!  we can do that too!!!

How long will it last and is it painful?

Well pain is perception, but I assume you will hardly feel a thing.

How long does it last?  Well three months plus and that’s it …movement begins to return about six weeks after injections, but very gradually.

I always recommend that you have it injected every three months as the whole aim is to let the muscles relax – and then back.

Remember, just like going to a gym, start to exercise and they’ll build up bulk – a little Botox and they produce a nice rejuvenation

Combination Treatments:

Yes, Botox is used with Restylane facial fillers, lip fillers and volumisers.

Synergistic results are fantastic, remember good facial rejuvenation is all about diagnosis.

And how is it done………..

The simplest thing I could do here is video it and show you exactly how I do it…………….

It’s open, honest and a real patient journey.  Enjoy it and please feel free to ask me any questions.

3. Yes – believe in recommendation – ask friends

4. Be happy, have trust and only do it once you are happy to – It’s proven that it takes 15 months from the initial thought to the actual injections – hard fact!

Porcelain veneer and bridges

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Here is one of our clients Terry who is 52 and received Porcelain veneer and bridges as his treatment.

Why I started
As a busy business man you can imagine teeth were the last thing on my mind. Yes, I always looked after myself but with time always against me, the last thing I had time for was a visit to the dentist.

However, after breaking my front tooth, I had to find a dentist I could trust.

The Visit
Using a special camera around my mouth, I could not believe the condition and state of my mouth.

Dr Tracey Bell was great. She reassured me she had seen worse, everything was restorable and yes an aesthetic smile was attainable! Even for the over 50′s.

The Procedure
Well what can I say, quick, effective and a beautiful result.

Dr Bell and Nick the technician knew exactly what I wanted. Yes I wanted them white, but I was also advised to add length which at first I didn’t understand why, but with the results, everything became clear. Nick was unbelievably an artist at work, the Picasso of the dental world.

I did have to have two lots of injections but I couldn’t believe how painless and simple they were. The Dr simply applied a special numbing cream and I felt hardly a scratch.

The temporaries I couldn’t wait to get rid of as I couldn’t floss but the result was amazing and all within 4 weeks.

The Results
Before and After treatment

‘WOW’- that is what my family and friends have said and I know people know I smile more, but the amount of comments I have had is quite unreal.

I’m happy I made the decision to rejuvenate my smile. The only regret I have is not having it done sooner.

My wife is now undergoing treatment with APT and her friend also. I suppose it’s one of those things we all should do but thankfully I found a company and a Dr who cared and yes you can tell they really care!

APT Says:
‘We believe that an informed consumer makes the best patient’

Varicose Veins

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Do you experience discomfort, swelling and Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are caused by faulty valves in the vain, which over time can lead to skin problems, such as itching, redness and eczema. If left untreated some patients can even go onto develop leg ulcers as a result of this condition

On the left of the image shows two healthy vein valves and correct blood flow. On the right of the image shows a damaged vein valve with incorrect blood flow

For over 100 years the traditional treatment for varicose veins was the painful process of vein stripping, which is normally carried out under general anaesthesia in operating theatres, and sometimes involves an overnight stay in a hospital bed. This treatment involves the complete removal of the vein and groin incision, it has a prolonged recovery profile with long return to normal activities- especially driving and walking.

Now patients can be treated with the VNUS Closure Procedure, a highly effective alternative to painful vein stripping surgery.

The procedure is recognised by NICE ( The National Institute of Clinical Excellence)

A virtually pain free procedure on a walk-in walk-out basis in around 40 minutes without a general anaesthetic, hospital admission or overnight stay.

The image on the left shows a Disposable catheter inserted into vein, the middle image shows the wein warmed and collapses and the right side image shows the Catheter being withdrawn, closing the vein

The new treatment consists of a radio frequency ‘microwave’ catheter, which is inserted into the vein through a tiny pinhole 2-3mm incision just below the knee using an ultrasound scanner.

Once the catheter is correctly positioned and local anaesthetic is injected, the microwave catheter gently heats the diseased vein sealing it from the inside, effectively closing it down. Blood then finds its way back to the heart through more healthy veins. A surgical stocking is applied and after a short rest the patient simply walks away treated.
